One River was conceived by C100 Creative Director Robyn Archer.
It was delivered in partnership with Regional Arts Victoria (RAV) with former RAV Director Lindy Allen as Executive Producer.
RAV has a long history of delivering multi-sited community-based arts projects: the most recent Illuminated by Fire worked with 11 communities in Victoria over 2010 and 2011 and had a week-long residency as part of the Light in Winter festival at Fed Square in 2011. The key personnel involved in One River have been collectively or individually responsible for developing, managing, directing and producing all of RAV’s major projects since 1998.
The project was developed following an intensive period of consultation with communities and artists throughout the Murray Darling Basin since mid-2011.
As Artistic Advisor, Donna Jackson guided and directed the project, assuming ultimate responsibility for the aesthetic outcomes. She ensured One River engaged widely with residents of the Murray Darling Basin and captivated those living in or visiting the national capital as part of the celebrations for the Centenary of Canberra.
As Curator of Stories, Malcolm McKinnon established a thematic framework to guide the development and collection of stories at a local level. He interpreted and re-presented collected river stories to create a series of short films in 2012 and 2013 that stimulate historical learning for individuals and for local communities. Malcolm also convened Critical Undercurrents, the series of One River symposia.
